"Shema Israel" שמע ישראל  - A Blessing For a Long Life

Shema Israel is a verse from Deuteronomy 6:4:

שמע ישראל, ה' אלוהינו ה' אחד.

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one".

This famous verse from the Torah represents the most basic declaration

of belief for a Jewish person. It expresses the Jewish recognition of The Lord as the

one and only God of Israel.

It’s being said daily-morning and evening in service

prayers. It’s also being said in extreme near death situations.

The "Shema Israel" Prayer is written on the scroll which is inside the mezuzah.

According to the Torah, the prayer was first uttered by Moses to the people

of Israel, just before he died.

It’s considered as the most important prayer in Judaism because it represents the

basic duty of every Jewish person to fulfill the mitzvoth (commandment).

According to the jewish tradition "Shema Israel" prayer provides the person who says it with a long life.

Deuteronomy 6:4.
